- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration and discovery.
- Assess and monitor each child's progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's development and milestones.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to enhance curriculum and share best practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom setting.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
- Encourage positive behavior and conflict resolution among students.
- Must meet Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) Lead Teacher qualifications
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience working in a licensed preschool or early childhood education setting
- One of the following credentials:
- CDA (Child Development Associate) OR
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field OR
- Equivalent education/training as approved by VDSS
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Completion of required VDSS training, including:
- Child Abuse & Neglect
- Health & Safety
- Medication Administration (if applicable)
- Ability to pass all required background check
- 3+ years of experience as a Lead or Co-Lead Teacher
- Experience implementing a structured or research-based curriculum
- Knowledge of Virginia licensing standards and classroom compliance
- Experience mentoring or supporting assistant teachers
- Passion for continuous learning and professional development
